The closing stages became a battle between America and Australia, but jockey Frankie Dettori held the 14-1 Undrafted back of the pack before timing his move for the line perfectly in the final furlong.
“It’s unbelievable — (trainer) Wesley (Ward) is a very good friend of mine, a big supporter of mine and nothing gives me more pleasure than winning for him,” Dettori said after the race.
“I didn’t want to kick so soon. I was going so well, every time he finishes strong so I saved him and he proved me right. On the line I knew I’d won.”
The 5-year-old gelding took home a cool $472,852 with the win, but also made bettors happy with his $34.80 payout per $2 win bet.
