It’s not mandatory to visit Roy to rebuild the remains of the bridge and travel to Frisco, but it’s still something fun and interesting to occupy a cowpoke’s time. There’s also plenty of meat to be gained, fightin’ to be had, and XP to be earned in the wild RPG West of Loathing.

How To Find Roy’s Bean House

After the protagonist clears the rubble blocking the train, the tracks extend to a broken bridge and open up the second part of the map. Roy’s Bean House is located in the lower part of this second area, and there are two ways to find it. Players can either talk to the man by the train eating jellybeans and ask where they got them, or find a letter at the Postal Way Station addressed to “Roy’s House of Justice and Jelly Beans.”

Normally, Roy has three kinds of jellybeans on display, but they’ve all been stolen. He tells the player where to find the stolen beans and marks the locations on the map. All of them are in the same region, on the lower left-hand side of the map.

Ol’ Granddad

The Goblins have stolen the Green Green Apple Jellybeans. They’re hiding in the vast expanse of Ol’ Granddad, a giant cactus that’s also a tourist attraction.

Players should make sure to have a bar of soap before starting this Errand. There are places to pick one up, like crates or lockers, and vendors commonly sell it as well. Other important requirements are either a Mysticality or Moxie of 40. Some of the possible choices for encounters are different if the player’s Pardner is Gary the Goblin.

First Floor

Upon entering Old Granddad, the player will encounter a Goblin blocking the ladder to the second level. Speak to him, and he’ll be happy to take that Bar of Soap off the player’s hands, because he thinks it’s a candy bar.

Second Floor

Instead of candy, this Goblin wants syrup. Go into the next room and use a Mysticality or Moxie of at least 40 to either make a spigot or find one from the pile of trash. Fill two vials, because he’s going to want extra.

Third Floor

The Goblin mutant who has the stolen Jellybeans hasn’t eaten them, thank tarnation, but the character needs to have Intimidatin’, Hornswigglin’, or Outfoxin’ to talk the creature into letting them go.

Jelly Bean Thieves’ Hut

It’s just a fire and a shack in the middle of the desert, and the way to retrieve the Mint Mint Jellybeans is fairly obvious depending on the protagonist’s skills and what items they happen to be carrying.

Honorable: At the beginning of the game, a character gets this from opting to capture or tie up an enemy as opposed to killing them. This allows the player to talk some sense into these ornery thugs and make them change their ways. Ruthless: If the protagonist has a reputation for being cold-blooded, they’ll have the option to blow them up using dynamite. Fight: When it comes to the old-fashioned option, these are tough enemies, so make sure there are adequate healing spells and buffs for this choice. Intimidatin’: Cow Punchers have this trait, and it has to be at least level 3 to use it here. Hornswigglin’: Available to Snake Oilers, level 5 is needed to talk the criminals out of their sweet plans. Outfoxin’: The intelligence of the Beanslinger outsmarts the rubes in the desert with little effort, but it needs to be at least level 5 to work on the Jelly Bean Thieves.

The Shroomcave And The Fort of Darkness

Roy will point the protagonist in the direction of the Shroomcave. The Hippies there have the Lime Lime Jellybeans, but Roy doesn’t know exactly who has them or where they’re being kept.

Bring a pair of Mushroom Plucking Pliers, which can be bought from a vendor in the Fort of Darkness or at the Breadwood Trading Post.

Explore the cave and harvest the Lactarius Dirtihippica mushrooms using the pliers. Loot the backpack and search the body to find the Fort of Darkness. Travel to the Fort of Darkness. Make sure to bring the mushrooms from the cave.

Most of the NPCs here will tell the player that the jellybeans are in Irene’s lounge, but nobody can remember where that is. The scientist in the third tent will say that the lounge is only accessible after consuming a Dirtihippica extract. He can make one for free with one of the mushrooms, or sell one for 1000 Meat. Return to the Shroomcave and consume the Dirtihippica extract. The entrance to the Hidden Lounge is on the north wall and is filled with little spirals. (Note that if only a raw mushroom is consumed as opposed to the extract, it is possible to see the outline of the door leading to the Hidden Lounge, but it’s still not accessible. ) The stolen jellybeans are in the Lounge next to the couch.
